Tamil Nadu as one of the 28 states of India presents three policies that will use Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain technology.

Tamil Nadu, the first state in India to emphasize new policies on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain and Cybersecurity. The information was first brought by Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami, during the valedictory session of the 19th edition of Connect 2020.

The chief minister said that Tamil Nadu continues on the path to being a “Destination of Choice” for the IT sector, while signaling the launch of a new project that will revolutionize government services to citizens. This project will be a combination of the State Family Database (SFDB) and Blockchain infrastructure.

This pioneering initiative will take the Government to the Citizens, thus eliminating the need for the citizens to request G2C (government to citizen) services,

the Chief Minister said.

Tamil Nadu’s direction was also confirmed by information technology secretary, Hans Raj Verma, who also talks about the implementation of these three policies. According to him, these are supposed to be policies using Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, and presently the state IT department has been working with various stakeholders for almost a year.

Santosh Mishra, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA), also commented on the situation with the following comments to the Indian news:

The unveiling of the policies is the transformative phase for emerging technologies in Tamil Nadu.

With the emerging technologies, the government will build an eco-system to derive its maximum usage,

Mishra also commented on the blockchain technology itself, which was to be launched this Saturday and is to help build the infrastructure. This infrastructure, also called Blockchain Backbone, is to function and serve as the sole source of truth and trust anchor for all government processes and data.

However, the Indian state is aware that given the importance of this infrastructure, it is also necessary to establish forums for the development of the advanced Blockchain ecosystem, to promote cooperation between industry, business and academia.

Within the last policy, namely cybersecurity, it is a clear task to formulate the protection of the information assets of the government and maximize their availability to the government and the citizens.
