According to the latest report published by the Russian daily Interfax, Alexey V. Moiseev, the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation told the media that citizens can use cryptocurrency wallets that belong to foreign intermediaries.
With this step, he made it clear that Russia does not plan to follow a similar path to China, which wants to completely deny access to its citizens to any services providing the purchase or sale of cryptocurrencies.
However, the Russian Federation will not lift the ban on using cryptocurrencies on its territory, as confirmed by A. Moiseev in a recent lecture on the digitization of financial markets. This ban still applies and the country does not plan to change it.
The Deputy Minister of Finance mostly referred to the situation that prevails in Sweden, where the use of cryptocurrencies has been allowed as a means of payment. He claims that the country could face problems in several areas as many organizations might stop accepting their national currency.
In Stockholm, at some places, you will not be able to pay in Crowns, they will demand a payment in cryptocurrency, said Moiseev
During the discussion, the deputy also commented on the need to define many new financial terms in the Civil Code, such as digital currency or blockchain.
