With current 7151 opened Lightning Network channels can Bitcoin theoretically handle 3.5 million tx/s

With growing awareness of Bitcoin second layer we can observe more and more pioneers who are joining to the Lightning Network. In 18. Jan 2018 network has 43 nodes, 68 channels and capacity: 9,931 USD. After 5 months Lightning Network has 2,401 nodes, 7,151 channels, capacity: 155,221 USD which can handle around 3.5 million tx/s if we assume that every node has the necessary hardware. For comparison VISA is capable of sending 56,000 tx/s. Number of possible transactions will grow with adding more nodes and channels. Also Lightning Network offers more privacy. Information are masks through onion routing similarly like in TOR. Intermediaries do not know who is sender or receiver. They only know closest nodes in front or afterwards.
