Crypto World Comes Together to Aid Earthquake Victims in Turkey

In the wake of the recent tragedy in Turkey and Syria, two countries struck by a magnitude 7 earthquake, several big names in the crypto world have made donations to come to aid the victims of the natural disaster that has so far claimed the lives of more than 7,000 people, with over 20.000 injured.

The cryptocurrencies involved include Binance Tether, Bitfinex, OKX, Avalanche, and Kucoin, with the collective number of donations currently reaching $9 million. The feat represents yet another example of the crypto community being ready to contribute to humanitarian efforts.

Executive Director of the Avalanche Foundation, Aytunc Yıldızlı, has stated to Decrypt:

"Turkey is close to the heart of the Avalanche Foundation and community, and the funds will help people recover faster in the wake of this tragedy. It is time to come together and show that crypto is a force for good and a sign of hope for all of us hurting."

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao also commented on the situation in a press release:

“The recent earthquakes in Turkey have had a devastating impact on so many people and communities. We hope that our efforts will bring some relief to those affected. We are also calling on our industry peers to once again come together to offer support in these times of crisis.”

The companies are thus following the example set only a year ago, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, and the crypto world came together to aid the country. It is at difficult times such as these that we can see the power of crypto come through.
